Calafate

It is located on the southern shore of Lake Argentino, and is the only access point to the Perito Moreno Glacier. Declared a World Heritage Site, it is impossible not to get lost in the beauty of its lakes, forests, and glaciers.
In the surroundings of Lake Argentino, a wide variety of activities are organized, highlighting visits to ranches, 4x4 trips, horseback riding, or excursions to nature reserves and glaciers.
Another advantage of its location is the full-day tours to places of impressive beauty, crossing the Patagonian steppe, such as El Chaltén or Torres del Paine.

Gastronomy

One of the specialties that can be tasted is the wonderful grilled Patagonian lamb, which takes hours of cooking. Trout dishes also stand out, fished on lakes that are close to the city. Though no one can leave El Calafate without trying guanaco meat, both an ancestral and exotic dish.

DID YOU KNOW?... El Calafate takes its name from a native southern shrub that bears a fruit called Calafate, a dark blue berry that is harvested in summer. There is also a Glacier Interpretation Center in the city, called Glaciarium. And it even has an ice bar!
